Saint-Tropez, in practice
The village
The heart of Saint-Tropez is the harbour and the Place des Lices, where the market is held every Tuesday and Saturday morning. The citadel, above the harbour, houses the maritime history museum; the Musée de l’Annonciade is the town’s museum of modern art. Staying near the village means doing everything on foot; staying further out brings more space and quiet.
La Ponche
La Ponche is the oldest quarter of Saint-Tropez, the quarter of the old fishermen’s houses, between the harbour and the citadel. It is where the village has kept its narrow lanes and its original scale.
Les Salins and the coast
Les Salins is part of the commune of Saint-Tropez, away from the centre. The area appeals to guests who want quiet while staying close to the village. The coastal path links the centre of Saint-Tropez with Les Salins along the shore; some sections may be closed, so it is worth checking locally.
The gulf
Saint-Tropez is one of the twelve communes of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez community of communes, alongside Ramatuelle, Gassin, Grimaud, Cogolin, La Croix-Valmer and Sainte-Maxime among others. Each villa in the collection is shown under its actual commune: a house in Gassin or Grimaud is never presented as being in Saint-Tropez.
Pampelonne, in Ramatuelle
Pampelonne beach lies in the neighbouring commune of Ramatuelle, not in Saint-Tropez. The villas of Ramatuelle have their own page: that is the one to look at for a stay close to that beach.
Choosing your villa
Three questions guide the choice: being close to the village or further out, preferring quiet or a lively setting, and having enough bedrooms with their own bathroom for each family. The size of the pool and of the outdoor spaces matters too, because most of the day is spent outside.
Getting there and when to come
For air travel, the Gulf of Saint-Tropez airport, at La Môle, is the closest; Toulon Hyères airport is the other usual arrival point. The tourist office describes summer, especially July and August, as the liveliest period; spring and the late season of September and October are calmer.
