Ramatuelle, in practice
The village
Ramatuelle’s medieval village curls around the shoulder of a hill. You enter through the Porte Sarrasine, and its cobbled, flower-lined lanes follow the line of the old ramparts. At the top of the village, on the road to Gassin, stands the Paillas windmill.
Pampelonne
Pampelonne beach lies in the commune of Ramatuelle, not in Saint-Tropez. It stretches over 4.5 kilometres of fine sand. That is often why Ramatuelle is chosen: staying here means staying close to that beach.
The capes and coves
Further south the coast alternates beaches and capes: L’Escalet, Bonne Terrasse, La Douane, the Baie de Briande. Cap Camarat and Cap Taillat, on the boundary with La Croix-Valmer, are listed sites protected by the Conservatoire du littoral. The Camarat lighthouse, built in 1838, carries its light 130 metres above the sea.
The vineyards
Some 750 hectares of vines cover the commune, under the Côtes de Provence appellation. Between the village and the sea, the wine estates shape much of the landscape of the hills.
A festival village
The Festival de Ramatuelle was born in 1985 as the Festival Gérard Philipe; the actor is buried in the village’s small cemetery. The festival takes place in summer: the 2026 edition ran from 29 July to 12 August.
A commune of the gulf
Ramatuelle is one of the twelve communes of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez community of communes; its immediate neighbours are Saint-Tropez, Gassin and La Croix-Valmer. Every villa shown on this page lies in the commune of Ramatuelle, and does not appear on the Saint-Tropez page.
Choosing your villa
Three questions guide the choice: being close to Pampelonne or higher up in the hills, near the village or further away, and having enough bedrooms with their own bathroom for each family. The pool and the outdoor spaces matter too, because most of the day is spent outside.
Getting there and when to come
For air travel, the Gulf of Saint-Tropez airport, at La Môle, is the closest; Toulon Hyères airport is the other usual arrival point. The Saint-Tropez tourist office describes summer, especially July and August, as the gulf’s liveliest period; spring and the late season of September and October are calmer.
