Villa Waldorf
Sorrento|Description
Villa Waldorf has 6 luxurious suites in the main villa, each individually designed by the famous interior designer Jacques Garcia.
All the rooms are furnished with the finest period furniture and objets d'art from Sotheby's and Christie's. Another special feature is the sumptuous marble bathrooms that accompany each suite.
The interiors are filled with a collection worthy of a museum of Greek and Roman antiquities, once owned by Lord Astor himself. In the lush gardens, you'll find ancient artefacts lying everywhere - columns, statues, fountains, urns, shards of pottery, fragments of sarcophagi and more. Many of these objects were originally excavated from Pompeii.
Enjoy the legendary 270-degree view of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius through the windows of your room or from a spacious terrace while savouring a fabulous meal prepared by a private chef. Stroll through the immense 20,000 m2 botanical garden, home to the finest botanical collection of over 1,000 plant species and considered one of the most beautiful in Europe. Take a swim in the natural grotto carved into the cliff or dive straight into the sea. Take a boat trip from the private pontoon and head for Capri or Ischia.
For a cultural exploration, visit Naples, Pompeii and Herculaneum or wander around the local towns.
Villa Waldorf is located in Italy, in the town of Sorrento, 50 km from Naples international airport, 70 km from Salerno airport (private flights only), 50 km from the centre of Naples, 10 km from the island of Capri, 12 km from Positano, 75 km from the Royal Palace of Caserta, 27 km from Pompeii.
Overlooking the Bay of Naples, this majestic property rises above the sea on a cliff. With arguably one of the most beautiful views in the world, both inside and out. With a long history dating back to the 1st century AD, when Agrippa Postumus, grandson of the Emperor Augustus, first made it his residence, Villa Waldorf has long been a home and destination for the rich and noble. Purchased by one of the wealthiest men of his time, Lord William Waldorf Astor, in 1905, the Villa became his passion project as he enlarged the grounds and designed a splendid garden to the rear of the house where a Dominican monastery once stood. His latest addition to the estate was the 'Pompeian' villa, which he decorated with Ionic columns and neo-classical frescoes by a Roman artist, Mario Spinetti. In the 1970s, Villa Astor was acquired by a wealthy family, Mariano Pane and his wife, who welcomed many illustrious guests, including Princess Margaret, Rudolf Nuriev, Gregory Peck, Sofia Loren, Franco Zeffirelli and Gianni Agnelli. Today, Villa Waldorf is the benchmark for luxury accommodation on the Amalfi Coast.
